Helping People Start Over (HPSO) is an Augusta-based nonprofit that partners with local organizations and businesses to strategically serve the economically disadvantaged. Since its inception in 1997, HPSO has served thousands with cost-free clothing, food, and occasional emergency assistance. In 2018, HPSO enlarged their operational footprint purchasing the former automotive dealership known as Stokes Hodges on Gordon Highway. We are excited that as of February 2019, our first phase of development is complete and our storefront is fully operational.
FOOD AND CLOTHING DISTRIBUTION
We distribute food and clothing on a weekly basis. Our distribution center is set up to inspire hope in our patrons. We want people to be excited about their future. The atmosphere is warm, bright, and cheery. We have clothing for children, men, and women.
When you come to HPSO for the first time, you will need to complete an application with our reception team before shopping. Also, please bring with you the following items to help us verify your household: picture ID cards, social security cards, birth certificates, and a recent utility bill. On your next visit, you will only need to bring your ID. After we review your information, you will receive arm band to shop the HPSO store.
You may receive food for your household every 30 days and 3 complete outfits (per person) every 2 weeks. We do our best to meet dietary requests for allergies and diabetes. If you are homeless, we will provide you with groceries that don’t require storage/cooking. In addition to food and clothing, you may place special requests for personal hygiene bags and other household needs.
